In 1996, Mark Slobin sponsored the first-ever (and still the only) Klezmer Research Conference at Wesleyan University with the assistance of Hankus Netsky, then a doctoral student. The “klezmer revival” was 20 years old, and it was time to gather everyone who did active research in the field, along with some colleagues from other fields for perspective. In 2025, Slobin decided to interview the participants, almost all of whom were still alive, resulting in this series of short reminiscences.
